3D scanning for the construction industry
In the rapidly evolving world of construction, 3D software plays a critical role. The SiteScape iOS app and web platform emerged as key tools for interacting with 3D point cloud scans, a powerful resource for construction planning and implementation.
The redesign process began with an in-depth analysis of the current web platform, including how projects were selected and how users navigated within a 3D point cloud environment. As part of this analysis, I conducted user research and interviews to gain a deep understanding of user needs, preferences, and challenges.
To increase the efficiency and user-friendliness of the platform, I introduced a new approach for the project list. This involved grouping entry points together instead of having multiple individual pages, thereby making relevant topics quickly and easily accessible.
The project view also saw significant improvements, with a new emphasis on prioritizing actions. The most commonly used actions that directly affected the 3D canvas were conveniently grouped at the bottom of the interface, while secondary actions were neatly housed in the main menu.
A substantial part of my responsibility was the creation of the information architecture and interaction design, ensuring an intuitive and seamless user experience. The 3D software interface was also updated to be more user-friendly and in line with common standards, ultimately enhancing the overall experience of interacting with 3D point cloud scans in the construction industry.
